Time to outfit your room. For this task you will be purchasing stickers to outfit your classrooms. This is a 'dream' classroom environment, so it doesn't matter how much you spend. To purchase your stickers, you will need to collect the correct amount of coins and bring them to the store. Step 1: Choose an item from the catalogue. Step 2: Find the correct change and bring it to the store. Step 3: Exchange your coins for your sticker Step 4: Glue your sticker in your classroom Step 5: Repeat! ** Hint ** It may be faster if you bring coins for more than 1 item at a time! For example, if you bought two things that were $1.50 each, you could bring $3 and get two stickers... Here is your order form: Shapes! On your paper, create 3 possible rooms. One is a quadrilateral, one is a pentagon, and one is a hexagon. Here are the rules: (I know, I know, there are always rules!) Quadrilateral: Perimeter of 24m Pentagon: Perimeter of 45m Hexagon: Perimeter of 60m Step 1: Draw your rooms (use a ruler!) Step 2: Label each side Step 3: Show your calculations for perimeter Step 4: Write one or two sentences for each room. What could they be used for in a school, and why? For example, which might be a storage room, a Learning Commons, or a classroom? Step 5: Can you calculate the area of each? If so, show how you did it. Here is all the grid paper! (click on the blog post to see the grid paper): As you go into a new school, you will have a BRAND NEW classroom! If you were to develop your own classroom, what would it look like and why?
** Discuss! ** You to learn and review: 1. The value of coins (counting coins, adding coins, spending coins) 2. Adding with regrouping 3. Multiplying up to 9x9 4. Making 2D Shapes 5. Reviewing measurement 6. Calculating perimeter and area Before we begin, answer these questions in your letter writing book: 1. Which of the above skills are you excellent at? (You are ALL excellent at some of those!!) 2. Which of the above skills do you fee you need to practice more? Purpose: To get more cards than your opponent. To maintain and improve your mental math skills. To learn the strategy, "Counting Up" (to put the large number in your head and count up with the second one).
Players: 2 Procedure: 1. Deal the entire deck between the 2 players. 2. Each player turns their deck so the numbers are not visible. 3. On the count of 3, each student flips one card over to explose its value. 4. Players race to slam the highest card with their hand. They must say the number as they hit the card. They MUST keep their hand on that card. 5. The player who slammed the card first (and said its value correctly), adds the other card. For example, if they slam a 7 and there is a 5, the 7 would be covered and they could count "8, 9, 10, 11, 12". Or they could just say 12 if they already have it memorized. 6. The player gets both cards and puts them at the bottom of their deck. 7. Each player counts to three and they flip the top card to begin again. |
